Why AI Sends Your Neighbors to the Medspa Down the Street
By Kate Bakker · October 2026 · 6 min read
The short answer
AI recommends the medspa it can verify most easily, not always the best one. The medspa down the street may simply have clearer treatment pages, listings that match everywhere, injector profiles and reviews that mention specific treatments. Each of those gaps can be closed.
Why does AI recommend one medspa over another?
When someone asks ChatGPT or Gemini for "the best medspa for Botox near me," it doesn't visit every medspa. It pulls together what it can find written about each one, then names the businesses it feels most confident about.
Confidence comes from consistency and detail. A medspa with a clear page for each treatment, the same address on every listing and reviews that mention Botox by name is easy to recommend. A medspa with one services page and a booking button is not.
What does the medspa down the street have that you don't?
Usually, nothing you can't build. In most of the medspas we review, the gap comes down to a few things:
- Treatment pages. One page each for Botox, filler, laser and skin, answering what clients ask.
- Matching listings. Google, Yelp, Apple Maps and directories all show the same name, address, hours and services.
- Visible injectors. Profiles with training and specialties, not just a headshot.
- Detailed reviews. Clients naming the treatment, the injector and the city.
- Mentions elsewhere. Local press, directories and articles that name the medspa.
Is it about being the best medspa?
Quality matters, because it shows up in reviews over time. But AI can only repeat what it can read. A wonderful medspa with a thin website loses to a decent one that explains itself well. That is frustrating, and it is also good news, because it means the fix is in your hands.
How do you check who AI recommends in your area?
Open ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity in fresh sessions and ask what your clients ask: "best medspa for lip filler in [your city]," "who does natural-looking Botox near [your neighborhood]." Write down who is named and the reasons given. Those reasons are your to-do list. Here are the 10 questions we use.
What should you fix first?
Start with listings, because they are fast and AI leans on them heavily. Then build the page for your most profitable treatment, and ask your next ten clients for reviews that mention it. Those three steps alone change what AI can say about you.
Questions about medspa AI visibility
How long before AI starts recommending my medspa?
Listing fixes can show within weeks. Pages and reviews build over a few months. It is steady work rather than a switch.
Does paying for ads help with AI recommendations?
Not directly. AI recommendations come from what is written about you, not ad spend.
Can I see exactly what AI says about my medspa?
Yes. The AI Visibility Snapshot shows you, with screenshots, who AI recommends for the questions your clients ask.
